For anyone who likes worship music this album is for you. This is Bethel Music’s first studio release and it is well done. The songs feature worship leaders Brian and Jen Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, Steffany Frizzell Gretzinger, William Matthews, Matt Stinton and Hunter Thompson. Bethel Music is the worship ministry of Bethel Church based out of Redding, CA. As Brian Johnson says, the album addresses the popular maxim that “the only thing you can count on is change.” In the fact that there is one more thing we can count on, “Through it all,” Johnson declares, “God is in control. Through the whole album there is struggle, there is tension, but there is a reminder that God is always in control.”

The lead single off of the album is “Chasing You” which features Jen Johnson and is a song about chasing God with insatiable abandon. I found a You Tube video that is a teaser for this song: http://youtu.be/XlO67gNTHGA. The clip also contains a look at the making of the song. With lyrics like, “I’m chasing You, I’m so in love, Captivated I just can’t get enough, I’ll spend my days, Running after Your heart…”. “Chasing You” is the cry of the heart of many Christians. This song is truly talking about living with abandon for God and chasing after Him. It talks about how chasing after God is a wild adventure.

The album features songs that offer adoration, instruction, and worship. The songs speak about not only what God has done but what He is doing both in the high and low tides of life. There is something for everyone on this album. “Heaven’s Song” talks about coming together as one body of believers to worship God. With lyrics like, “We have come, As one heart, As one voice, To join heaven’s endless song.” To me these lyrics are a reminder to look past the walls of our local churches and to remember the larger body of Christ that we are a part of.

“Give Me Jesus” is simply a cry to have more of Jesus than what this world has to offer. Lyrics “Give me Jesus, You can have all this world, Just give me Jesus” reminds the listener that what is truly important is to know Jesus and to spend time with Him.

Slightly Obsessed #192: Heaven Is Calling: Consider Jesus

Some days we can barely hear it. Other days it drives us to our knees. But it’s always there; that persistent tug in our souls. Whether we trudge through our days or chase the stars of fame and fortune, we can’t drown out the cry that sounds silently in the pit of our being, jarring us with its urgency and moving us with its tears.
