Third Day "Miracle"

From the ever-popular Christian rock band Third Day, Essential Records provides us with their newest album “Miracle.” The twelve tracks that encompass “Miracle” are full-out rock united with worship-minded lyrics. All are spectacularly awesome and each packs a punch, combining unique sound effects and terrific lyrics into a beautifully constructed piece of art.

The force behind their music reminds me of the band Petra, but that’s as far as the comparison goes. It’s not 80’s rock – far from it. And did I mention, Mac Powell, the lead singer’s amazing vocals? His voice is one of a kind, and I absolutely love his approach to the songs. So many well created tracks, and having liked every single one of them, I did manage to flesh out a few of my favorites.

The title of the first song “Hit Me Like A Bomb” may surprise you, but after listening to the lyrics, it all makes sense. The guitar and drums, coupled with Mac Powell’s striking words make this a really, really cool song. Here’s a snippet from the chorus: “Hear the sound of the sirens ringing, see the world of a life that’s changing, well, you hit me like a bomb, I was scared and I started running, can’t say I never saw it coming.” It’s the perfect first track, because from the get-go, it really does hit you.

I LOVE the guitar and crazy sound effects in “For The Rest Of My Life.” It’s not like any Christian song I’ve ever heard. Not to forget, of course, that the lyrics are great too: “Staring at the edge of a canyon, it all feels so far away, somewhere it all went wrong, the sun has come and gone, I’m left here standing in the rain, You rescued me from the darkness, I feel the warmth and the light.” I have replayed this one often.

Listening to “The Victory” made me feel like I entered a war – a spiritual war. Its music and words really do give you that impression. And the lyrics proclaimed everything I gleamed from this track: “I’ve been fighting like a soldier, from the day that I was born, trying to make it through the hard times of this cruel world, but I’m keeping my head up, even if I am alone, and I’ll be fighting till the good Lord takes me home.” This song also has a bit of a southern rock flare to it – which is awesome.

Wow! I liked Third Day, but to be honest, I wasn’t sure about reviewing their newest album “Miracle”. Alas, I found myself listening to their cd and writing a review for it. And after swinging my head and doing silly hand movements, I knew that I didn’t just like their album, I loved it! I don’t usually dance, so any album that can make me groove is special. So, I extremely recommend “Miracle” by Third day. You’ll adore it if you’re already a fan of their music and if you enjoy rock-infused songs. One of the best albums of this year! Be sure to pick it up, you’ll miss out if you don't.

Slightly Obsessed #192: Heaven Is Calling: Consider Jesus

Some days we can barely hear it. Other days it drives us to our knees. But it’s always there; that persistent tug in our souls. Whether we trudge through our days or chase the stars of fame and fortune, we can’t drown out the cry that sounds silently in the pit of our being, jarring us with its urgency and moving us with its tears.
