TobyMac "Dubbed & Freq'd: A Remix Project"
by Kevin Thorson (cmaddict) on 2012-03-21 15:37:38

The always relevant master of mixes is back after a seven year absence of re-mix albums. TobyMac is the best in the business when it comes to putting a fresh new spin on his already addictive tracks. Most artists can't quite pull it off as well as the hip hop titan of Christian music can, and Toby's latest incarnation "Dubbed & Freq'd" is no exception.

This project is a remix of songs from his lastest successes "Tonight" and "Portable Sounds". Toby has outdone himself with loads of switch ups and electronic what nots. All of his latest hits are well covered like "Made To Love", "City On Our Knees" and the obvious "Tonight". The best remix on the album, and one of my favorites to put on repeat is "Lose My Soul". My only complaint on the track is the oddly out of place bells, which wouldn't have been missed had he left them out.

"Dubbed & Freq'd" is strewn with almost Atari like electronic bits. You can almost visualize the album as a game in various parts, obviously played off of by the graphics department on the album's cover which has a Pac-man feel to it. Dare I say, TobyMac-man. The album feels too chopped up in some areas and loses some of it's flow, almost like he was trying to add a little too much. But in totality, this remix is still brilliant. Such a crisp creative project could only come from one of the industry's best. TobyMac puts together another great release... no surprise there.
