Kevin Max "Serve Somebody"

If you know Christian Music you know who Kevin Max is. 1/3 of DC Talk, solo artist and former lead singer of Audio Adrenaline Kevin Max is arguably one of the most recognizable voices in Christian Music. Max, since departing Audio Adrenaline in 2014, has been releasing independent music, through PledgeMusic, every 6-8 months. This summer he released his latest project Serve Somebody through Gotee Records. Serve Somebody is a full covers project full of rock and roll gems. I’m not talking today's “rock & roll” that you supposedly hear on the radio. No- I’m talking about true rock and roll.

Max personally picked each song to incorporate rock&roll and to showcase the spiritual aspect of each song. They are such good choices you forget these are mainstream songs and start to believe your listening to a “CCM” record. Songs like “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and “Let The Day Begin” allows Max to once again prove why they call him “old leather throat”. His vocals and arrangements on each song are flawless and demand a repeat listen. The title track, a Bob Dylan cover, is all about choices… Who will you Serve?

One delightful surprise is a cover of Rich Mullins' “Creed” which Max brings into the 21st century. It’s hard to believe we lost Mullins almost 20 years ago and Max has not only paid tribute to his dear friend but made such an impressive cover it’ll no doubt end up on my top ten tracks of the year.

While most of CCM has caved into the pressure of making radio hits, Max stands to be the voice of reason. He passion for the arts and for music have been so inspiring it is no wonder his devoted followers have pledged for him to continue to make such great and bold musical choices. Serve Somebody is no exception. Pick this one up today and allow the music of old to show you not only what Rock&Roll used to be but show you the spiritual aspect of it as well.
