MIKESCHAIR "All Or Nothing" by Julia Kitzing (cmaddict.com) on 2014-04-30 08:04:34
Mikeschair formed while the band members were in college at Nashville’s Belmont University. They submitted a demo to the Belmont Christian Music Showcase and got a coveted performance spot that gave the band confidence to begin pursuing a musical career, and the rest, as they say, is history.
According to Mikechair’s website, “There is something so sweet about surrender, yet at the same time, there’s something a little intimidating about commitment, and it’s that spot in the middle where believers sometimes get mired." Mike Grayson explains, "It’s human nature to pick and choose the verses that we like out of the Bible and push aside the ones that are a little harder to hear, the fact is the Lord doesn’t want a lukewarm believer. The title song on our new album is obviously about the fact that we want to be on the ALL side.”
The song “All I Can Do” comes from a Bible study that Mike Grayson was doing with his wife called Crazy Love and a chapter about prayer that really convicted him. Mike Grayson admits, on Mikeschair’s website, that he is always looking to the future and forgetting to be thankful for things that are happening in the present. That he doesn’t take time to rejoice in the victories God has helped him with now and that the song reminds him to stop and say thank you. “All I can do is thank You, For this life I never deserved, Wanna thank You for the grace, I know I don't have to ear.”
“People Like Me” features Matthew West and is real, honest, raw and powerful. The melody starts off with a synth keyboard and Mike declaring out the heartfelt and confronting lyrics, of “…what if I told you, what would you say? Would you stand me, would you walk away? What if my walls came down and you saw everything? All of my weakness, all of my scars, all that I’ve hidden deep in my heart for so long, and I’m scared to set it free.”
“Over and Over” is full of riveting keyboard sounds and a reminder that God gives us His grace over and over; that it never runs out. “Forever Faithful” has powerful drums and is a reminder of God’s faithfulness with lyrics like, “…through every seasons change, You still remain, forever faithful, time and time again, You’re constant til the end, forever faithful.”
In conclusion the album ends with the powerful “All to Jesus.” As Grayson says, “It’s like a modern take on ‘I Surrender All,’” My prayer is by the end of the record, people will hear ‘All to Jesus’ and that literally will be the cry of their heart — all to Jesus I surrender. That’s why I put it at the end in hopes of not closing the chapter, but in saying, ‘Okay I’ve gone through the journey, this is where I want to land, and go on from there.’"

When we are in the fire, it’s easy to ask God, “Why?” It doesn’t hurt to ask that question, to examine our own hearts. If we can find no explanation for the trial, it’s possible that another drama is being played out behind the scenes.
