Casting Crowns "Thrive"

Casting Crowns is a name we've all come to know and love. From “Who Am I” to “Praise You In This Storm,” Casting Crowns has brought us songs that are anthems, reminders of who Christ is in times of joy and times of struggle. Their newest album,”Thrive,” is another power packed album full of songs that speak to everyone.

From their own website is the meaning behind “Thrive” and how to live it out:

“You were not meant to struggle to make it through the week. You were not meant to be shackled by anxiety, worry, and fear. No, you were meant for so much more. You were meant to live life and to have it more abundantly. That is the promise of the eternal God.You were meant to dig deep and reach out. You were meant to know God and make him known. Surviving is for those who have no hope. That's not you - not if you're God's child. You were meant to thrive. It's a simple concept. To thrive, we must: Dig deep into the roots of our relationship with Jesus. This helps us understand who God is and who we are in him. We dig in to know God. Reach out to others. This helps us to show the world that we belong to Jesus and that Jesus is God. We reach out to make God known.”

“Just Be Held” is a song that speaks to all of us. The world we live in requires us to always be strong, to always keep it together. What are we to do when we are blindsided by something major and it leaves you grasping for something to hold on to? The answer is simple:

So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away / you're not alone, stop holding on and just be held / Your worlds not falling apart, its falling into place / I'm on the throne, stop holding on and just be held / Just be held, just be held

“Broken Together” is a song that hits home right now. I’m a newlywed and the lyrics speak volumes to my marriage. We’re both broken in different ways, but only with God can those broken parts be used to make something whole and right. Marriages aren’t perfect and easy. They are hard work and take commitment. “The only way we'll last forever is broken together.”

“Dream For You” is just that - spelling out what God’s dreams for you are and realizing that they are bigger than you could have ever imagined. God wants us to just let go of our own dreams and let Him lead.

So come on, let Me dream, let Me dream for you / I am strong when youre weak and I'll carry you / So let go of your plan, be caught by My hand / I'll show you what I can do / When I dream for you / I have a dream for you

No one wants to merely survive each day and get to the next one. We all want to thrive, to grow, to enjoy each day that comes. Problem is we often don’t know how. As this album reminds us, we truly have to let go and trust God to walk us through His plan for us. To truly say “Ok, God.” Let this album be the one to help you get to that point.

Slightly Obsessed #189: The Calling

The sound must have been a maddening echo that haunted him at first, tormented by the rooster’s crow that mocked his empty proclamation of loyalty. For three days, his faith lay in the grave with the Savior’s body, darkened by the memory of his public desertion.
