DESPERATION BAND RELEASES "BANNER" TODAY by Hoganson Media on 2014-09-30 14:00:51
The youth worship band at Colorado Springs-based New Life Church, Desperation Band, releases its all-new album, BANNER, internationally today through Integrity Music. Recorded live during the July 2014 Desperation Conference, the acclaimed, 12-song album captures the spirit and energy of youth at worship during the conference, while sharing a deeply-rooted belief that the God of ages past is alive, well and moving mightily among people who are desperately committed to Him.
In conjunction with the release of BANNER, RELEVANT Magazine streams the album on “The Drop” while NewReleaseTuesday.com, UPtv.com and LouderThanTheMusic.com will each premiere a new live performance video from the Digital Deluxe version of the album.
UPtv.com premieres “Break Open,” LouderThanTheMusic.com premieres “We Are Yours” and NewReleaseTuesday.com premieres “Make A Way,” as well as features a devotional of the song at this link. The Digital Deluxe also includes all 12 songs, a fourth video of the title track and a digital booklet complete with song charts.
Written specifically with today’s students in mind, BANNER is deliberate both sonically and lyrically, and is receiving not only 5-star average reviews from iTunes music patrons, but has sparked praise from the critics:
“Worship leader Jon Egan and the rest of Desperation Band return with BANNER, an album of epic proportions recorded live at the recent Desperation Conference. This album perfectly captures the excitement and energy of youth in worship with songs that will appeal to multiple generations because of their musical and lyrical depth and scriptural foundations… The sound of the Desperation Band is familiar, yet excitingly fresh, with new voices, bold sounds, and a freedom to explore new styles and take risks…” – Worship Leader Magazine
“Desperation Band is beyond question one of the most well-known acts in the area of congregational worship, and this album is a perfect representation as to why…there is something to be said about the authenticity of their worship. Real, raw and moving - a few words that come to mind when listening…the 12 song collection features the dual components of soul-stirring moments of praise and high energy songs that are sure to get you out of your seat.” – NewReleaseTuesday.com
“With its refreshingly clean and clear sound, BANNER succeeds in all aspects: vocals, musicality and arrangements…The album flows well, and could be enjoyed song-by-song, or from start to finish, making it an ideal addition to any listener’s collection.” – CCM Magazine
“Known for songs such as ‘I Am Free,’ ‘Overcome’ and ‘My Savior Lives,’ Desperation Band, led by Jon Egan, introduces new worship tracks and potential church classics, such as ‘Break Open,’ ‘Even Though’ and ‘You Make A Way.’” – Christian Retailing
Egan, who helped form Desperation Band in 2001 and now mentors a new generation of worship leaders and songwriters at New Life Church, co-wrote with Jason Ingram, Jonathan Moos, Nico Perez and others for the new album. For the title track, Egan shares, “I’d been wanting to write a song about God being our banner, the ancient truth that God is with us, leading the march through history. One of our young guys came in with some music and I brought some direction for the lyrics, and it just came together. It’s so ancient, so ‘Moses and the Old Testament,’ yet to these guys it seems fresh and cool, which I think is great.”
Having never lost sight of the limitless potential of students to impact their world for Christ, Desperation Band is planning to take its message, new songs and favorites like “I Am Free,” “Overcome,” “Yahweh” and “Strong God,” on the road for an extensive, international tour spring 2015. Over the years, the band has led worship for hundreds of thousands of high school and college students through its touring and at the annual Desperation Conference.

A few short moments taken to restore a woman to health had kept Jesus from the bedside of a girl who lay dying. Messengers arrived with the news that Jairus’ little daughter was dead, striking fear in his heart as they destroyed the hope to which he clung.
