Abandon’s Josh Engler answers questions from CMADDICT's Cara Fisher about their latest album "Control"

Q: Your new record is titled Control. Does the record have a theme or concept?

A: The theme of the new record is the beauty of giving God control.

Q: How have you progressed musically and lyrically from your first record?

A: We've grown in depth and understanding and have come into our true creativity.

Q: What was it like working with Aaron Gillespie? What songs did you write with him?

A: Energetic! He's 200% all the time and he inspired us to bring that energy to these two songs "SOS" and "Push It Away."

Q: What song on Control is most meaningful to you? Tell us the story behind that song.

A: "Why does it take so long" - it shows the struggles of balance - family, ministry and chasing your dreams. 

Q: What bands did you listen to growing up?

A: Seven Day Jesus, Steven Curtis chapman, DC talk, Delirious?, and the Supertones.

Q: What bands influence your music?

A: Delirious?, U2, Phoenix, One Republic, and the Killers. 

Q: You've said that you "set out to stay real" with your audience. How do you do this?

A: By keeping our faith real and talking to our audience about issues that are important to them.

Q: Name one important lesson you've learned about the music industry.

A: Build relationships! 

Q: What is The Emerge Experience, and how did you become involved with it?

A: It's a school assembly program that uses multimedia, music and motivational speaking to give hope to students. We partnered with Emerge in 2005. 

Q: Any upcoming tour plans?

A: We are planning to do the Emerge Experience in San Antonio, TX this fall and we are talking to a few other artists about touring together...
