“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” -Revelation 1:18

Israel prayed for a Messiah, but God arrived.

They yearned for freedom from Rome, but He offered them deliverance from themselves.

They looked for a new kingdom, but the King had come to claim their hearts.

The man Jesus embodied all the fullness of God. They just didn’t know that. Had they known, they would have been more saddened at His suffering, but less devastated by His death. On Golgotha, they witnessed a holy sacrifice. As the perfect Lamb offered Himself for their sins, they grieved, dreams in tatters, thinking they had watched an execution. All that they could see was that the man who they believed would redeem Israel was dead. Death had destroyed their hope. And there was no return from the dead.

For the three long days that Jesus was in the tomb, they wallowed in the finality of their despair, sure that all was lost and that they, too, would be killed. Even life without Him would be pointless. The darkness in their hearts was magnified by the emptiness.

The day for which Heaven had long waited finally dawned, and with it came a stunning realization for the disciples. Jesus was alive. He who was dead had risen from the grave. He was not the vanquished, but the conqueror. The understanding came in waves as doubt melted into shock and joy and worship.

In the strength of that knowledge, empowered by the Holy Spirit, the disciples fearlessly proclaimed what they had seen and heard. They gladly suffered and died for His name, certain, now, that pain and loss were temporary conditions. They turned the world upside down with the joyous news.

This Easter, the tomb is still empty. He is risen, and He holds the keys to death and the grave. Those who believe in His name have been released from the power of sin and given this same life. We live in the strength of this revelation. He is Lord. He is King. He is the eternal God. He is the Living One.

He is risen, indeed!

In 1788, the Austrian army turned on itself and decimated its own ranks, allowing its enemy to walk in and take the city. Are we allowing the same thing to happen on the spiritual battlefield?

While life is so uncertain, one thing is: God loves us so much, and He will never abandon us. No matter what happens in the coming days, months, or years, God is in control. And He will give us the strength to overcome any trial that comes our way.
Jordan For Jesus #039: Find the GOLD in People

Find the GOLD in people. If you only see fault, error, wrongs, sins, and what is bad, in people, then you have no time to love them. You cannot judge people and love people, at the same time, which is why the Word of God instructs us to look for what is good in people. When we look for the good, in people, we are choosing to see people through the eyes of God.
Slightly Obsessed #212: Believe

Sometimes it feels like just getting out of bed sets us up for defeat. But we shouldn’t be surprised. God clued us in thousands of years ago in the book of Job when He warned us that we are born for trouble as surely as sparks from a fire will fly up into the sky.

Darkness is God’s secret place, where He fashions a new creation away from the prying eyes of His enemies. In the chrysalis of the closet, He plans and weaves and forms His beloved into something that will burst forth with joy at the proper season.
Slightly Obsessed #210: Arise

A few short moments taken to restore a woman to health had kept Jesus from the bedside of a girl who lay dying. Messengers arrived with the news that Jairus’ little daughter was dead, striking fear in his heart as they destroyed the hope to which he clung.
